Graduate Program - Molecular Basis of Disease

Application Process For International Students

Please be aware that funding to support international students is limited.  It is very important that you familiarize yourself with the Graduate School website regarding the international admissions process. The deadline for international applicants at the University of Washington Graduate School is January 1st.

Information for International Applicants

As a non-US citizen there are three factors which you should consider before deciding to pay the application fee and applying formally to the Pathology PhD program:

  1. The Pathology PhD program operates within the University of Washington Graduate School. The Graduate School has application rules that you must satisfy before you can consider applying for the Pathology PhD program. You can learn more about the required materials at the Graduate School website.
  2. It is very difficult for us to evaluate the credentials of foreign applicants and to rank them against applicants from the universities or laboratories within the US. At the very least, it would be necessary for you to come to Seattle (almost always at your own expense) so that we can interview you.
  3. The great majority of graduate students in our program are funded through interdepartmental training grants obtained from the National Institute of Health. Only US citizens or permanent residents are eligible for this funding. For this reason, we have rarely accepted non-US citizens/permanent residents into our program. The exceptions have almost always been applicants who were already working in laboratories within the Department of Pathology, or applicants who came with their own funding.

If you meet these requirements for international students, please follow the procedure for US applicants.
